This week:
A reflection of how last week’s cards informed my own not-so-pretty experience
The ‘as powerful as you are’ forecast that inspires your coming week
Realistic guidance to gain the most from the approaching energy
Whenever I receive the Wheel of Fortune/Destiny I’m on the lookout for changing events mainly outside of me. But together with the High Priestess leaning toward internal shifts with the Emperor reversed, I strongly suspected there was going to be an invitation to consider where heavy energy from excess effort could relinquish internally to compassion and wisdom.
Last Wednesday I spontaneously ordered a new deck that grabbed my attention from nowhere, and as I’m currently in New Zealand, I didn’t expect delivery for a couple of months. Instead, one week to the day they arrived which was the first eye-opener, and things haven’t been the same since.
I’ve got many decks. M-a-n-y. But within 48 hours of their arrival, my new deck-shaped ‘Wheel’ oblonged it’s way into my life, and in way less time than it takes for me to choose a new pair of Lululemon leggings, ripped off a five-year old brutally painful emotional band-aid exposing a situation that’s refusing to heal. This deck doesn’t mince it’s words delivering insights like an iron fist in a velvet glove. My ‘Wheel’ turned to request movement over stagnation and it’s no coincidence this deck arrived with an energetic blue flashing light during ‘Wheel and High Priestess week’.
For half a decade, there’s been an ongoing personal experience with all attempts at understanding the underlying karmic relevancy leaving me emotionally battered. Reading for myself has kept me sane throughout, but this deck has spoken in a manner that asks me to pat down the soil on - aka bury - what feels like, the remnants of hope for the outcome I’ve desired for so long. My fingers have worn tired of clinging to the edge of the cliff-of-hope for a specific outcome and I feel forced to leave the path of futility for one that releases creative despondency and emotional fatigue.
I’m no Taoist Sage although I often turn to their wisdom for inspiration. Their teachings, which you might need to read twice, tell us;
“The acceptable and the unacceptable are both acceptable: what seems favourable can be fatal, and at the same time what seems fatal can be favourable”.
- Lao Tzu and Lieh Tzu
So what do I get from this and how do I retain any hope from a situation that continues to appear hopeless?
We all need hope, after all what is life without it? But - there’s always a but - when a particular strand of hope becomes a painful anchor that keeps us standing in a delusional shadow of our true self, is it time to ask whether the dream of attainment has become a burdensome attachment of wanting, to the detriment of all else?
Understanding what, or who, are deserving of the energy we choose to give, is a fundamental discernment of evolved souls. Our relationships, both with others and ourselves, do not require control or calculation, but instead thrive on simplicity, surrender and humility. Within surrender-mode we become aware of what we actually do want, something we can only really glean from listening to our own experience and wisdom and not egoic patterns or trauma responses.
Maybe in time additional hindsight will be illuminating for me. But for now, that’s the only element of hope for this particular situation that is healthy for me to retain. I’m taking each hour at a time and I tell you this because it’s ok not to be swinging from the rafters with euphoric joy all the time. All emotions are valid and are a critical component in our human experience.
And with that said, I’m off to ‘pat down that soil’… on my new tarot deck… 🤔 😉
“Hope is a waking dream.”

What is guiding us this week?
Top | Tarot of Oppositions by Pierluca Zizzi and Michele D’Aloisio: 1. Queen of Swords, 2. Magician, 3. Bottom of Deck: Ace of Swords
Bottom | Lenormand by Rana George: 1. Letter, 2. Bear, 3. Bottom of Deck: Crossroads
In the interests of keeping the layout simple, the week ahead is guided by self mastery in all that we communicate. Interesting, considering we’re in the middle of another Mercury retrograde until 14th May…
1. What are we learning to do?
The Queen of Swords and Letter are asking us to become focussed on what we are choosing and not to get distracted from our path, purpose, or what calls us. We can be detached but not cold, impartial but not indifferent. Where might we become engaged without the heavy emotional attachment that threatens to override our mastery and pull us off kilter? Now is the time to be examining your life path from a rational or logical perspective, and then communicate this.
2. For what reason are we learning this?
The Magician and Bear indicate the powerful laws of the elemental concepts of fire/power, earth/matter, water/emotions and air/mind. The vision you hold is yours to make your own created from nothing other than your intention. You have the ability to transform this intention into your reality, so by using your wisdom, it’s time to show up as who you choose to be by respecting the power of your mind alongside the wisdom of your heart. It’s a time of powerful rebirth without the cliche: where are you shedding the old and welcoming the new that harnesses all of you?
3. Bottom of the deck card reinforces the focus
The Ace of Swords and Crossroads together are asking you to consider where and how your perceived limitations hold you back. Taking a breath and holding for a moment enables you momentary distance to bring forth your intelligence and reason to overcome any challenges in thinking and speaking with clarity. You choose your words, but do they follow an habitual pattern or reaction, or a conscious response that reflects your personal truth? You are always in choice of how, where, and who to, you wish to portray that.
“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person”.
- Albert Einstein
Five things to consider this week…
Breakthroughs of thought: how do your ideas or mental clarity now appear to you?
What it is you want to create: your reason why, and what resources you may need to apply in order to retain a balance between your heart, mind, body and spirit in achieving your goal. How may these inform your independent judgement, perspective, direct communication and pro-action toward your intention?
Decisions: what may you need to make in order to pursue a new opportunity?
Look at your options: knowledge and growth exist in more than one path. Where might you try something new that expands your horizon?
Applying your wit: where may you need to seek someone else’s truth that eliminates any assumptions, before you make your decision?
Now is the time to…
Write, text or email: your thoughts, feelings, experiences and goals and notice whether your language moves you towards or away from your desired intention (e.g. replacing ‘I’ll try’ for ‘I am’ etc.)
Make a ‘keeping it real’ to-do list: assign a time in your day you’ll commit to the action
Self-nourish: energy healing, massage, talk, cuddle, eat
Make a decision: choose and move
